Chamaecyparis obtusa nana 'Gracilis'

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gracilis' is a Hinoki cypress of elegant, compact appearance.

Characteristics
A small evergreen shrub with a columnar to conical shape, growing to about 2-4 m in height and around 1 m across, slowly. The foliage is scale like, glossy dark green, arranged in dense, shell shaped sprays along the branches, and persists all year to give constant green in the landscape. The bark is reddish brown, slightly cracked and rough.

Growing and care
Sun or partial shade and fresh, well drained, slightly acid soil; it dislikes drought and hot dry wind, so keep it watered in summer and mulch the base. Hardy and slow growing, it needs virtually no pruning.

Uses
A specimen for small gardens, Japanese gardens, rock gardens and borders of dwarf conifers, and excellent in containers by an entrance.
