Buxus sempervirens 'Aureovariegata', the golden variegated box, is an ornamental selection valued for its gold edged foliage and compact habit.

Characteristics
A medium sized evergreen shrub reaching 1-2 m in height and width, compact and dense, with upright, well branched stems forming a rounded head. The leaves are small, oval and leathery with smooth margins; the distinctive feature is their variegation, dark green with golden to creamy yellow edges that brighten the whole plant. The greenish yellow spring flowers are insignificant.

Growing and care
Sun or light shade, where the variegation stays brightest, in fresh, well drained soil; hardy and long lived. Clip in late spring, removing any all green shoots so the variegation is not lost, and mulch the base.

Uses
Specimen and accent planting, variegated hedges, topiary, mixed evergreen borders and containers, where it lights up shadier corners.
