Agapanthus africanus 'Albus'
Agapanthus africanus 'Albus', the white African lily, is an ornamental selection valued for its elegant white flowers and attractive foliage.
Characteristics
An evergreen perennial 60-90 cm tall and as wide, forming a dense basal rosette of long, narrow, arching, glossy dark green leaves some 30-60 cm long. In summer, usually from June to September, upright stems bear spherical umbels of pure white flowers above the foliage.
Growing and care
Full sun for the best flowering, in fertile, well drained soil; it dislikes waterlogging, especially in winter. Water regularly in growth and flowering, sparingly when dormant, and protect the crown or shelter pots where winters are cold. Deadheading extends the season.
Uses
Mixed borders, single colour drifts, beds along paths and large containers, where the white flowers stand out against the bright green foliage; excellent for cutting.
