Acer platanoides 'Globosum'

Acer platanoides 'Globosum' is a Norway maple selection known for its compact, globe shaped crown and ornamental foliage.

Characteristics
A slow growing deciduous tree of moderate size with a dense, naturally spherical head, usually reaching 3-4 m in height and as much across, generally grown as a standard on a clear stem. The leaves are large, palmate and lobed like those of the common Norway maple but a brighter dark green, turning golden yellow in autumn. Small yellow-green flowers appear in dense clusters in spring, inconspicuous but scented and attractive to bees.

Growing and care
Sun or partial shade and any well drained soil; very hardy and tolerant of urban conditions. It needs almost no pruning to keep its round shape, only the removal of damaged or badly placed branches in the dormant season.

Uses
A formal tree for streets, squares, car parks, driveways and small gardens, where a regular, low crown and dependable shade are required.
