Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry'

Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry' is a Norway maple cultivar known for its compact, upright habit and richly coloured leaves.

Characteristics
A deciduous tree of moderate size, usually 9-12 m tall and 4-6 m wide, growing more upward than outward for a columnar, tower like shape. The leaves are its distinctive feature: palmate, divided into finger like lobes, and an intense purple-red that becomes especially vivid in autumn before leaf fall. The yellow-green spring flowers are not showy and are followed by double winged samaras.

Growing and care
Full sun gives the strongest leaf colour; it tolerates most well drained soils and urban conditions and is very hardy. Water while establishing; prune in the dormant season only to remove damaged wood, since the narrow shape is naturally maintained.

Uses
Excellent where a coloured tree is needed in limited space: streets, car parks, small gardens, narrow avenues and formal accents.
