Acer negundo 'Flamingo'

Acer negundo 'Flamingo' is a box elder selection with strikingly variegated foliage.

Characteristics
A medium sized deciduous tree about 6-10 m tall, with a rounded shape and dense crown; trunk and branches are dark grey. The foliage is the point of this variety: the compound leaves are marked in creamy white, pink and green, giving a lively variegated effect that varies slightly with the season and growing conditions. The greenish yellow flowers in spring, before the leaves, and the winged samaras that follow are not ornamental.

Growing and care
Sun or partial shade and well drained soil; fairly drought tolerant once established, though regular watering in summer droughts is beneficial. Very hardy, to USDA zone 3. Prune to keep its shape and to remove damaged or badly placed branches; hard pruning encourages the brightest variegation.

Uses
An ornamental tree for gardens and parks, as a single specimen or in groups to create colour contrast in the landscape.
