Cupressocyparis Leylandii a spirale

Cupressocyparis leylandii, the Leyland cypress, is a hybrid between Cupressus macrocarpa and Chamaecyparis nootkatensis. The spiral form refers to a specific pruning and training technique that turns the tree into a sculptural ornamental plant, with a spiral cut along the trunk.

Characteristics
Foliage: scale like leaves of an intense, bright green, held all year for a dense evergreen effect. Shape: the spiral is obtained by meticulous clipping that models the tree into a decorative, sculptural form. Growth: Leyland cypress grows very fast, so the spiral form needs regular maintenance to keep its outline.

Growing and care
Sun or light shade and any well drained soil; it is vigorous and thirsty while establishing. Clip two or three times in the growing season, following the existing spiral, and feed in spring to keep the foliage dense.

Uses
A formal focal point beside entrances, steps, gates and driveways, in pairs for symmetry, and in large containers on terraces.
