Acer palmatum dissectum 'Garnet'

Acer palmatum dissectum 'Garnet' is a Japanese maple grown for its finely dissected foliage and intense ruby red colour.

Characteristics
A small tree usually 1-2 m tall and as wide or slightly wider, with a mounded, cascading shape and pendulous branches. The leaves are finely dissected into many narrow, pointed lobes, delicate in texture, emerging an intense ruby red in spring and holding their colour through the warm season before deepening to dark red in autumn. The small red flowers in spring and the winged samaras that follow are inconspicuous.

Growing and care
Partial shade and a moist, well drained soil; it is sensitive to heat and drought and needs regular watering in summer dry spells. Hardy to USDA zone 5. Little maintenance is needed beyond pruning to shape it and to remove damaged branches.

Uses
A focal point or architectural element in Japanese, rock and contemporary gardens, and an excellent subject for large containers thanks to its compact, weeping habit.
